I suggest you ...

Permissions on categories

Possibiliy to set joomla group/user permissions on categories and not only documents. In that way you can restrict a user/group of users from viewing a category on the frontend.

Maybe compatible with the upcoming ACL implementation in Joomla 1.6?

This would be huge! Restricting view of categories would increase the customization for users.

I agree with Alastair 100%. I would have bought it by now if it had this feature. Groups should not see other groups on frontend uploads.

        Please add this feature asap!

I am relatively new to joomla, but have found that it is an amazing CMS. I need docman to publish our policies and procedures to our intranet. Docman is exactly what we need, however, some of our policies have hundreds of sections and literally 1000's of individual procedures. it is asinine to try to assign permissions to each document. if docman can fix this, it will most definitely be the most useful extension i have used. Please add category permissions!!

I have used this great extension before, but now I have someone who wants uploads, I have become very disappointed with DOCman. I want to use it so I can share documents with my individual clients. If I'm a registered user I should only be allowed to upload files into my category. i.e. My company name....Is there a work-around?

Yes is a good feature. I trying to develop own modifications but I still working now.

Docman uses Joomla categories, which don't have permissions. I don't know why they can not add an additional setting to not make certain categories visible to those without rights to them. they could even call the "category rights" so people would understand it. Other than that one major annoyance, it rocks.

I was about to buy docman, but after discovering there's no way to have permissions rules on category I gave up!
It's really a pity! This feature together with file permissions is obviously "a must have" and the number of comments on this topic is a clear proof of it.
Hope this will be developed quite soon.

I purchased Docman 1.5 and the plugs, and I am also disappointed in the lack of category permissions. I now need to shop for something to replace Docman, which is a shame. If the developer fixes this, I'll continue my support and use Docman.

Please note that if category permissions does finally get implemented, it's very important that users not be able to see other Docman group names or user names when they are submitting uploads or editing the permissions parameters. It's REALLY important that my clients not know who my other clients are!

Each document category should be able to restrict to specific groups, so only the users in that group will be able to perform actions on the documents in that particular category.

I was also disappointed after purchasing and realizing there were no category permissions. Categories should be hidden from users without permission to access them. I thought this would be an absolute basic function of any good document management system. This request is by far now the most requested feature and at the top of the list, yet I see no plans anywhere for it to be added. Can a moderator please comment and let us know if it's in the works?

I got DocMan because of the AEC micro integration capabilities and I admit, it was my fault for not reading deeply into presales info, but the fact that there is no way to limit upload or download by category with DocMan or the Productivity Pack just made me regret spending the money. So many other features, but not these abilities? It renders DocMan pretty much useless for the community site I originally meant it for.

I'm about the buy both the DOCman and the Productivity Pack, please can some one advise if the permissions on categories is available or not?

12$ and no category permission?????? crazy! it's really important, don't understand why there isn't this feature

Was SO disappointed when the Joomla 1.5 upgrade did not include category permissions. I've seen multiple feature requests for this going back to at least 2008.
